There have always been an assortment of social groups for students to associate themselves with, such as jocks, emo kids, goths, stoners and more. Now you can add one more to the list: Bronies.

Bronies are the male 20-something fans of the television show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. They are unashamed of their unabashed love for the show and the memes they create. Their presence online has increased to the point that the popular website 4chan dedicated an entire board to the show.

Cinematology Episode 1 - Some assembly required

On the first episode of our new movie podcast Willy Fresh joins us to talk about Marvel's The Avengers and David Bowie's junk, Josh decides to talk about how he's elitist, Derek loves the Hulk, David loves super heroes and Eric loves Tremors 4.

Today was an eye-opening look into the world of bronies. As enlightening as message boards and instant messaging can be, nothing can beat in-person conversations. I went to USF’s Skypad to gather interviews. The room is at the top of the student center and is filled with high-definition 3D televisions for whatever the students want to use them for. It’s also painted an obnoxious neon green, because apparently we like very bright colors.

TV Book Club Episode 15 - Random dancing

Even though I was completely shocked and excited after I received approval, I wasn’t feeling that hook from the show and put aside any work on it until day 17. After PAX East, I was struck with the PAX pox. I may have wasted two days of laying in bed not watching, but I sure wasn’t going to put it off for a third. I picked up right where I left off, right in the middle of the two part premiere.

I proceeded to watch three more episodes, and midway through the third Faith came home. She was furious that I was still watching My Little Pony after she had previously told me not to watch when she was around. My only real defense was that I needed to do the work, but I really just wanted to watch some more of the show. She was not happy, but too tired to complain or do anything about it and lay down beside me and watched the rest of the episode.

Trying to find horror - Lone Survivor vs. Silent Hill

Can you even think of one? Horror is a difficult genre to master. Instilling those feelings of dread takes complete creative harmony. Without an eerie soundtrack and equally unsettling set of sound effects a game lacks the atmosphere it needs. In turn, no matter how good the sound design is, if the creatures, be them shambling monstrosities or lurking horrors, aren’t convincingly inhuman (or human depending on the context) you’ll probably end up laughing instead of shuddering. Those, and every other element are the essential pieces, if one doesn’t if the whole puzzle is out of whack.

Gaming in Context - Understanding Atlus' "Catherine" (With a little help from Diablo 3)

I've been waiting to post this article.
